Traveling to Barcelona? The Search for the Perfect Piña Colada is Over
Here is the scenario:
You're traveling solo in Barcelona, Spain. It's a hot summer day at the Barceloneta beach. It's late-afternoon and you're thirsty, not quite hungry and you're looking for a spot that's both a feast for the eyes as it is for the palette. You don't want to waste the calories on a less than stellar cocktail and you could use some badass female inspiration.
Problem-solved!
Check out Gallito Restaurant, under the W Barcelona Hotel and order a piña colada from Paula, a stylish boss of a bartender with a great eye for lipstick. Both Gallito and Paula have great energy and both are super thoughtful in their approach to design. It was also a treat to smell the fresh herbs through the breeze while I sat at the bar.
Here is Paula in action:
Getting to know Paula:
I pulled up to the colorful bar and ordered a piña colada from a very friendly and stylish bartender, Paula. She sets down this cocktail that is the right amount of flavor and sweet and alcohol. You can taste it all, in the best of ways.
While I'm sipping on my cool beverage we start to chat in between her busy spouts of customers. (TIP: This is also a great way to meet people and get to know the city when you're traveling alone).
Where she's from: A northwest city in Spain, but has been living in Barcelona for a year and half and is loving it here.
What lipstick she's wearing: A Milan based brand that is affordable, Kiko Milano Cosmetics, and wears well. She tells me there are a couple stores located near Plaça Catalunya.
Where she got her ink done (her tattoos are sick): Several were done abroad, but the one she rocks on her left bicep was done locally in Barcelona. At Wonderland Tattoo by Max Toson (if you're looking to score a memorable tattoo from this vibrant city.), located in the Gothic neighborhood.
Where she goes to shop: In the Raval area. If you're looking for second-hand shops or for something more commercial, also near Plaça Catalunya and Las Ramblas.
The next time your in Barcelona, make sure you make a stop at Gallito and get yourself the best Piña Colada you'll ever have. And tell Paula I said, "what up?!"
As always, let me know what you think!
Bisous,
Taryn
